What does it assess?

The Level of Readiness Assessment© gives you concrete information about how ready – and willing -- employees are to learn and adopt the new behaviours, attitudes and activities needed for a specific change.

No fluff. Just science-based data you can use
Anecdotal readiness measures may give you an indication of a general mood among your employees, but do not give you quantitative data you can use to develop effective plans that will mitigate risks and ensure your change project’s success.

The Level of Readiness Assessment© is grounded in decades of research into human and organizational behaviour.

The overall readiness score is derived from four factors:

  • whether employees believe they are able to make the change,
  • their perception of the value of the change,
  • their placement on the change continuum and
  • their likely speed of adoption for this change.

The Level of Readiness Assessment© gives you:

  • Readiness scores for specified groups and the organization as a whole including:
    • the percentage of employees who are at high, medium and low levels of readiness, and a profile of each of these levels
    • an overview of where employees are on the change continuum
    • an indication of how quickly your employees are likely to adopt the change (early, middle and late adopters)
  • A detailed analysis that tells you what the scores mean to your change project’s success.
  • Recommendations for transition plans and activities based on your organization’s pre-determined readiness criteria

2 Critical components of your overall readiness score:

 Placement on the Change Continuum

The change continuum is a series of five phases that every individual must go through before a change is complete. They will not be able to make the change successfully if they get stalled at any of the phases. Employees need different types of information and activities in each phase of the continuum. Knowing where the critical mass of employees are on the change continuum helps you ensure you are taking the right actions to increase their readiness and move them forward on the continuum.

Rate of adoption

Knowing whether key employee groups are likely to adopt your change quickly or slowly also helps you target your activities more effectively. This knowledge can help you avoid mislabelling late adoption as resistance. Instead of fighting so-called resistance you can focus your energy and resources on increasing readiness.

What can I do with the results?

You can use the information gathered through the Level of Readiness Assessment to:

  • identify potential change leaders/champions within the organization
  • plan the implementation of the change more effectively,
  • reduce resistance and speed adoption,
  • increase the effectiveness of training programs,
  • build trust and commitment, and
  • use time, money and resources more effectively.

The Level of Readiness Assessment comprises four main steps:

  1. Clearly defining what readiness looks like for your specific change(s).
  2. Tailoring the Level of Readiness questionnaire to your organization’s change.
  3. Distributing the level-of-readiness questionnaire to selected employees.
  4. Analyzing the data and completing your organizational readiness profile and final report.
